Interior home design is obviously very important but so is exterior design as that’s what will decide your visitor’s first impression. As we all know, first impressions can be very important when it comes to making a decision about whether we like or dislike something so making sure the outside of your house looks as good as the inside is important. One of the most important parts of exterior design is to get the garage looking great and in this article we’ll be talking specifically about how to use a sectional garage to your advantage.

What is a sectional garage?

First of all, let’s be clear that I’m not talking about “sectional garage doors” (that will be a different article) but instead about a sectional garage. A sectional garage is any garage that’s been divided into two or more regions so that you can separate different aspects of the garage and what you want to use them for. For example, some people use sectional garages to create a space for their car and then a separate place to store items or as a games room. What you ultimately decide to use your garage for is completely up to you though and you shouldn’t feel limited by the regular things that people use a sectional garage for.

Types of sectional garages

A concrete sectional garage is the most common type of sectional garage and should you wish to build one that is the choice for you. Remember that building a sectional garage isn’t always easy so you need to make sure you hire a company that’s well respected amongst the community. Ask around friends and family to see which companies they’ve used in the past for similar tasks so you’re best placed to make your decision. However you should remember that just because a company is good at certain projects doesn’t mean they’ll be good at all so make sure you buy a sectional garage from a company that specialises in garages.

Sectional Garage Doors

Once you’ve decided on a sectional garage you then need to think about the doors. I’ll write a separate article on choosing the right sectional garage door but here are a few things to keep in mind.

  1. There are several different types of garage door so you need to think about which one suits you and your family the best. For example, up and over sectional garage doors is one possibility. Traditional hinged garage doors are also often used although they require more clearance.
  2. The style of the garage door should match the rest of your home’s exterior and preferably the rest of your neighbourhood too. You don’t want the door to look out of place. For this reason don’t just think about colour but also the material – i.e. wood, metal or vinyl garage doors.
  3. Another thing to consider is the price. When buying a door for sectional concrete garages for example you need to be aware that there will be a large range of prices available.
  4. If you have a large budget then getting some sort of remote opening system may be a good idea.

The most important thing to remember when buying a sectional garage door is that you need to ensure you buy the right one for you. Ultimately, it’s you who needs to like the door not anyone else so don’t be swayed from a door you like because you think it isn’t what other people will want to see. Of course, the more you can fit your door into the surrounding environment the better though when choosing for a regular or sectional garage.
