Getting your home design right is important not just because you want your house to look good to visitors but also so you feel comfortable. If you can’t feel relaxed and happy inside your own home, where can you feel it? The problem is, there are so many home options available at the moment that it isn’t always easy to know which one to go for. In this article we’ll be helping you to make the right decisions when it comes to home design options by providing an overview of the basics you need to take into account when designing any home.

Placing your windows correctly

This might not be something you have much control over but if you’re completely redesigning your home or building a new one then where you put your windows is one of the options you’ll have to think about. The important thing to remember is that a vast majority of the heat in the home comes from the windows. The exact placement of the windows as well as how large they need to be will depend on the direction they’re facing. For example, South facing windows should be around 5% of the total area of the wall.

Using the right siding

Siding is something that not many people consider but is actually one of the most important parts of the exterior of your home. Make sure you choose a siding that looks good, will last a long time and fits in well with the environment. Wood siding looks good but is unfortunately very susceptible to rotting and insects so it may be better to go for some sort of vinyl siding to get the same look without having to worry about it degrading over time.

Interior Design Options

Probably the most difficult thing about getting a home just right is the interior design. While you can follow manuals and guidelines for the exterior of your house the interior house options you have almost entirely come down to personal choice. The good news is you can simplify the design options you have available for your home by following a few simple rules. These rules won’t tell you how to decorate your home but will give you an idea of what you need to look for if you’re to decorate it successfully.

The reality of interior design is that not many people really know how to do it! We all know what we like, but being able to create that in our own designs is sometimes difficult which is why it helps to have a few rules. After all, you can’t break interior design rules until you know what they are right?

#1 – Keep Things In Proportion
This is something we all know about subconsciously but it helps to think about it a bit. You need to make sure all the things in a certain room are the right size compared to each other. For example, if you have a small table in a large dining room then this will probably look out of place. On the other hand, if you bought a table that was too large then it would fill up the room and make it look crowded.

#2 – Don’t Use The Same Colour For Everything
When you begin interior design it can be tempting to buy furniture that’s all the same colour. While there is nothing wrong with this you can make more interesting designs by buying colours that complement or contrast with each other.

#3 – Keep Things Simple
Especially when you first begin home design it’s important to keep everything simple. If you do this then you’re much more likely to create a compelling design than if you were to make a complicated but cluttered design.
